Record sealing

An old charge should not answer for you forever

Employers, landlords and licensing boards still see arrests and convictions from years ago. Some of those records can be sealed. Whether yours can depends on the offense, how the case ended and how much time has passed.

We start by looking at your record and telling you in writing whether you qualify, before you sign anything. If you do, we prepare and file the petition and go to the hearing.

We help with

  • Arrests that ended without a conviction

  • Older convictions that the law allows to be sealed

  • Cases that were dismissed

How a petition moves

Most petitions take several months. The court sets the pace, and we tell you what to expect at each step.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Pull the record

We get your record from the courts, so we are working from the same pages an employer would see.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Check the rules

We compare each case with the rules for sealing and tell you which ones qualify.

  3. 03

    Step 3: File the petition

We prepare the petition and supporting papers, you sign by video, and we file it.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The order

If the court sets a hearing, we attend. If it grants the petition, you get a copy of the order.

What the fee covers

What the fee covers for sealing a record

One flat fee for one petition. If several cases can go in one petition, we say so before you sign.

  • Record sealing, one case

One petition for one arrest or conviction.

    • A written review of your record

    • Petition and supporting papers prepared and filed

    • The hearing, if the court sets one

    • A letter you can show an employer or landlord

  • Record sealing, two to four cases

One petition covering up to four cases that qualify.

    • Everything in the one-case fee

    • Each case checked against the rules on its own

The court’s filing fee for each case, and fees for fingerprints or a record check, are paid to others. Our flat fee pays for legal work. Court costs, fines, restitution, bond and expert fees are paid to others; we name each one and its amount before it is spent.

What people ask about sealing a record

Will sealing make the record disappear?

A sealed record is no longer open to most people who search for it, but some agencies may still see it. We explain who in your review before you decide.

How do I know if I qualify?

Send us your name and your case numbers, if you have them. We pull the record and tell you in writing, case by case.

Can I seal a record from another state?

That depends on where the case was heard. Tell us on the first call and we will say whether we can help or who can.
